With Valentines just around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to provide you a little inspiration if you’re looking for something to do with your special someone. These are pretty simple ideas you can do anytime you want to have a date night. Although they’re categorized by personality type, feel free to pick and choose ideas from each section and make it yours.
It can be easy to get into a rut with date night when you’ve been together for so long. My husband and I have been together for 10 years, and although most of our date nights are in (little kid parent life), we try and plan a few special ones throughout the year where we do something different. It’s so important to make time for each other in this busy life, and reconnect with each other.
Re-live something special that you shared with your partner. It could be your first date, the place you met, or the place you first said I love you. Reflect on your favorite memories together. Bring #FlashbackFriday into your date night!
Want to go all out for date night? We tend to do something special like this on our anniversary, but you can totally do it whenever! Book a fancy hotel with those credit card points. Get an Uber Black to pick you up. Go for a couples massage. Don’t forget the fancy dinner and dancing. Book a photographer near you to capture you two #treatyourself! Don’t forget the details like that bottle of champagne in the room to toast your love!
From axe throwing to amusement parks, go karting to golfing, helicopter rides to hiking, this is for the couple that loves to get out and do something new. Check something off both of your bucketlist or help each other conquer a fear! Skydiving, ziplining or swimming with sharks maybe? There is a psychological connection between doing something thrilling that pumps adrenaline and cortisol to your brain, and romantic love with the person you’re sharing it with…just sayin’! Check out Airbnb experiences near you, or Groupon if you’re in the states.
There’s nothing wrong with the classic date night in. I think it’s important to make it different than what we do every night after the kids go to bed, which is usually just watch a movie. Put the phones away (unless you need it for music), and make it a special night. Cook your favorite meal or a new recipe together, and don’t forget to start by going to the grocery store together. Get dressed up, set the table, and use your nicest dishes if you want to make it fancy. Get a bonfire going with a wine and cheese board. Don’t forget the chocolate to go with it.
Make it cozy, and have a picnic on your living room floor. Write and share love letters with each other. Plan your next vacation together. There’s so many things you can do without even turning on the TV. Get creative and have fun!
A few more tips:
– If you’re planning something big, maybe give a little heads up that you have something in the works! Especially if you know your spouse is going to need time to prep! Or so that you don’t double plan.
– Get a babysitter, like yesterday! Seriously lock-it down! If you’re going to do a night in maybe plan to send the kiddos to the grandparents for a sleepover.
– If you have lots of plans, keep track of them somewhere so you can stay organized. Start from the beginning, and go through each detail of the date to make sure you don’t miss anything.
Whatever it is that you decide to do for a date night, make it your own. Remember that it’s about reconnecting with one another, celebrating your love, and making one another feel important. I hope you enjoy these little tid-bits. And if you’re looking for a photographer to capture your love, don’t hesitate to contact me.
